Patent status

Agonist Development AB holds filed, patent-pending intellectual-property positions in the United States covering accessibility-compliance algorithms.

Downstream open-source users receive patent peace for the published OSS surface under the EUPL-1.2 Article 2 grant. The licence grants each user a royalty-free, non-exclusive right to any patents held by the licensor to the extent necessary to exercise the rights granted on the Work.

Per-application details (application numbers, filing dates, claim counts) are available on request to EU/EEA residents via legal@ariada.org. Authoritative records live at the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) Open Data Portal.

What patent peace means for you

If you use, fork, or redistribute the EUPL-1.2-licensed packages published under @ariada-org/, you receive an irrevocable, royalty-free patent licence covering the maintainer's filed positions to the extent necessary to exercise your EUPL-1.2 rights on the released Work. You are not at risk of patent-infringement claims from Agonist Development AB for that use.

The “to the extent necessary” language is deliberately narrower than the Apache-2.0 or MPL-2.0 patent grants. It covers OSS use of the published code; it does not extend to commercial rebuilds or derivative services that step outside the licensed Work.
